LPN Chiropractic Assistant:
LPNs are some of the hardest working and most overworked people on the planet. When I was working as an LPN, I put in long hours, weekends, and holidays with hardly a thank you on most days. I missed important events for my family like graduations, soccer games, and birthday parties in order to care for other people’s families. I had a huge overwhelming patient load with little support, as I tried to manage medications, dressing changes, and nursing assistants all while staying compliant according to state regulations. I was injured on the job and could have faced lifelong ailments as a result of my work. All of this after working extremely hard in nursing school with over 40 hours a week of classroom time, plus many hours of homework, studying, tests, and clinicals. Upon graduation, I had high hopes to change lives, save lives, and impact others for the greater good. Then I arrived at my first nursing job and things started to go downhill. Thirty patients and two nursing assistants, and they all needed medications and dressing changes, plus I had to get them up and out of bed before breakfast? It’s an impossible task that I bore with a smile because I had grown to truly love my patients. Too often, those patients I loved and looked forward to seeing everyday eventually deteriorated and passed away. After all my hard work, they passed away and left me feeling devastated. Then I slapped a smile on my face and went to help another patient who has been demanding more ice chips for over an hour as I sat with my last patient as he took his last breath.
If you're like me, this is not what I had hoped nursing would be. I’m here to offer you hope. I'm here to offer you the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others by helping them to get healthier and healthier with each passing day, not sicker and sicker. This opportunity will challenge you and grow you in new ways. While you won’t be cleaning up body fluids or giving injections, you will have the opportunity to interact with patients on a personal level, educate them on how to improve their health, and help people reach their goals. Every interaction leaves them and you with smiles and you are blessed with the joy of watching your patients improve.
