Symptoms: Back Pain and Neck Pain
I was at a health fair recently and someone came up to me and said, “Doc, why do I need chiropractic when I can take an over the counter painkiller or an anti-inflammatory and get rid of my symptoms?” And the answer is “absolutely, you’re right”. You can certainly get rid of your symptoms by doing that, but is that really what you want to do? Because what is a symptom? It’s that red light that comes on on the dash when you’re leaking oil. It’s the light that comes on when you’re low on gas. It’s the alarm that goes off in the smoke detector when the house is burning down. Certainly, you could go break that smoke detector, get rid of that sound, and ignore the problem. You could put a piece of duct tape over that red light that came on and pretend there’s nothing wrong with the car.
What we do as chiropractors is we go to the source, find the cause of the problem, remove the cause of the problem. If something’s causing that inflammation in your body, that’s what’s getting in the way of your golf game. That’s what’s keeping you from being able to pick up your children or play with them, and get rid of the cause, the problem shouldn’t come back. You don’t have to keep going after that over the counter anti-inflammatory or the pain killer. Get rid of the cause.
